LeADS: 4 research and training positions in Data Science and Law now available
The LIDER-Lab of the Sant’Anna School is seeking to fill 4 research and training positions in Data Science and Law within the EU-funded Legally Attentive Data Scientists (LeADS) H2020 project coordinated by Professor Giovanni Comandé. The Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) recruited through LeADS will also be able to work towards a doctoral degree in the Ph.D. Artificial Intelligence & Society administered by the University of Pisa as part of the novel national program PhD-AI.it.
The LeADS Consortium is composed of 7 prominent European universities and research institutions (in addition to the Sant'Anna School, the Université Du Luxembourg, the Université Toulouse III, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Jagiellonian University, the University of Piraeus, and the Italian National Research Council) along with 6 important industrial partners (Innovation Acts Ltd, Βυτε Computer S.A, Intel Corporation, Tellu, Indra, MMI SpA) and 2 supervisory authorities (Italian Data Protection Authority, Italian Competition Authority).
The ESR/doctoral researcher’s will work within LeADS as envisioned in the Grant Agreement and, in the same framework, advance their doctoral thesis research. This will be undertaken at the Sant'Anna School, which has recently become a partner of the Ph.D. Artificial Intelligence & Society. As doctoral students, the ESRs will be jointly supervised by faculty in the LeADS consortium and will have the opportunity to spend secondment(s) at consortium member institutions.
Each ESR will work in one of the following general areas:
- Reciprocal interplay between competition law and privacy in the digital revolution
- Unchaining data portability potentials in a lawful digital economy
- Differential privacy and differential explainability in the data sphere: the use case of predictive jurisprudence
- Neuromarketing and mental integrity between market and human rights
Candidates are, however, welcome to suggest other research topics for their doctoral thesis. ESRs will benefit from being part of a large transnational and transdisciplinary research group comprising several faculty and pre- and postdoctoral researchers working on topics related to AI, Technology and Law. This will enhance their knowledge base and experience, strengthen their academic profile, and provide a chance to engage with renowned experts and key industrial players.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree (a degree in law is particularly welcome but not mandatory)
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- In order to fulfil the eligibility criteria of the Marie Curie ITN, at the date of recruitment
- not having resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months in the last 3 years (compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not considered). Italian candidates can apply if they have resided in another country for more than 2 of the last 3 years
- not having already obtained a doctoral degree and being in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research career.
The OFFER will be for a 36 Month full time contract, employee and PhD student status, location in Pisa with abundant travel opportunities, a yearly gross salary of € 40.966,56 (including income tax and retirement pension contributions), a mobility allowance up to € 7.200 and a family allowance (depending on family status at date of recruitment) of € 3.000.
